How to write video scripts that get sales

A strange thing happened to me today. And the end result will affect the way you write your script (or copy) for your video ads.

Here’s how the events unravelled itself…

I’ve been doing this morning ritual of sorts. I say of sorts because I’ve tweaked it throughout the past few months.

I had to create one that fits me because I’ve got a habit I’m trying to change.

I’m a night owl.

I’ve been known to stay up so late I hear the birds singing! But, I’m changing it. It’s taking some discipline.

This latest tweak to my morning ritual I’ve been doing has lasted for about 4 weeks now and I must admit, I kinda like it.

It’s the only morning ritual I’ve done that feels right to the extent where I don’t feel shattered by midday.

I do it Monday to Friday and the weekends I wake up a little later.

Here’s how it goes…

Wake up at 7 am (8 am on weekends). Drink some water, wash my face, brush my teeth throw on a pair of shorts and a tee and head out the door for a 20-minute walk to appreciate what I have.

20 minutes later I come back in, read, meditate for 20 minutes, do circuit training for 12 to 15 minutes before heading off to the shower.

By the time I’m ready to work it’s about 9.

Work is just a few steps to my “office” which is in my apartment.

Perfect.

I love working from home or having a home-based business. Freedom to call the shots and everything.

However, you do need to be disciplined to make it work. Another discipline I need to tackle to make better. But I digress.

Why am I telling you all this anyway?

The reason is that – this particular morning I did something different. I violated one of my er…rules.

Instead of firing up my computer and starting on an important task like starting or finishing off a client video, or trying to write video scripts, for whatever reason I opened up my effin’ email.

Mutha-fudger!

On a disciplined day, I’ve been able to cut out my emails in the mornings because once I open it sucks me into its never-ending blackness of oblivion.

And before you know it I’m down a rabbit hole and it’s lunchtime. So email is banned in the morning. It only gets opened at AFTER 4 pm.

Arghh!

I saw a “promo” from Udemy which had a neat deal on promoting some courses I have wish-listed over time.

One of the offers was for an explainer video course created by Miguel Hernandez, teaching folk how to create professional-looking explainer videos with Apple’s Keynote that looks like it was created in Adobe After Effects.

With my endorphins firing I bought it.

write video scripts

Feeling a tad guilty over my self induced violation and my impulsiveness, with the endorphins still running at peak level I start to consume the first set of videos.

I knew I should have put it down ‘till later so that I could get back on track.

Besides, this course is 9 and a half hours long… however, as I moved from the introduction section into section 1, the module about scriptwriting I could feel a bit of excitement building in my chest.

Which is strange because I’ve read up and studied my fair share of information about scriptwriting for videos.

…And quite frankly, the majority of what I have learnt just don’t produce that kind of effect… ever!

As I moved through the scriptwriting section, I felt like I had a major download from the Universe. A massive “A-HA” moment.

The section was breaking down how to write video scripts in a way that pushed you to write good copy by giving it a score (more on this shortly).

I started to understand how to combine art and science to writing a video script for an explainer video, however, I flip and tweaked it to work for creating shorter ads for eCommerce products.

When I realised what I stumbled across, I started experiencing a similar feeling to when I bought my first iMac…

…Total excitement!
